Privacy Policy

Between Us is a curated community that brings people together for talks, dinners, workshops and shared experiences. This policy explains what personal information we collect through bu.community (the "Site"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.

1. Who we are

The Site and the Between Us community are operated by Muselab LLC ("we", "us", "our"). Muselab LLC is the controller of the personal information described in this policy.

2. Information we collect

When you apply to join, we collect:

• first and last name
• email address
• city and country
• professional field
• your answers to "What brings you to Between Us?" and "What would you enjoy contributing?"
• whether you agreed to receive community communication

When you request a spot at a gathering, we collect your name, your email address, any note you add, and which gathering you asked about.

When you're accepted and take part in the community, we may keep notes about your application and interview, record your membership status, and keep a record of the gatherings you attend.

Collected automatically: like most websites, the servers that host the Site keep standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, date and time) for security and to keep the Site running. We don't use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. If we add privacy-friendly analytics in the future, we'll update this policy first.

We don't ask for sensitive information (such as health, religion or political views). Please don't include it in your answers.

3. How we use your information and why

We don't sell your personal information. We don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we don't make decisions about you by automated means alone. Every application is read by a person.

4. Who we share it with

Your information is only accessible to the Between Us founding team. We share it only with service providers that help us run the community, and only to the extent they need it:

• Google (Google Workspace / Google Sheets and Gmail): stores applications and requests, and delivers our emails
• Website hosting and infrastructure providers: host the Site and process form submissions
• Luma (luma.com): handles registration for ticketed gatherings. When you register through Luma, Luma's own privacy policy applies.
• WhatsApp (Meta): runs the community chat for accepted members. WhatsApp's own privacy policy applies to your use of it.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our members or others, or as part of a merger or sale of our business (in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information).

5. International transfers

We're based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the US and other countries. Applicants from anywhere in the world are welcome. If you're in the EU/EEA, UK or Switzerland, your information will be transferred to the US. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) where our providers participate, or Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. How long we keep it

• Applications not accepted: deleted within 12 months of our decision
• Members: kept for as long as you're a member, and deleted within 12 months after you leave the community
• Gathering requests: deleted within 12 months after the gathering
• Communication consent: we keep a record of your consent, and of any withdrawal, for as long as we need it to show we respected your choice

You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time (see section 7).

7. Your rights and choices

Everyone can:

• ask what information we hold about you and get a copy
• ask us to correct or update it
• ask us to delete it
• unsubscribe from community communication at any time, using the link in our emails or by writing to us

If you're in the EU/EEA, UK or Switzerland, you also have the right to:

• restrict or object to our processing of your information
• receive your information in a portable format
• withdraw your consent at any time (this doesn't affect processing that took place before you withdrew)
• complain to your local data protection authority

If you're a resident of California or another US state with a privacy law, you may have similar rights to know, access, correct and delete your information, and you won't be discriminated against for using them.

To use any of these rights, email ping@mariacutsdeep.com. We'll reply within 30 days, and we may need to confirm your identity first.

Do Not Track: we don't track you across other websites, so we don't change our practices in response to "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signals.

8. Security

We restrict access to the founding team and use reputable providers with industry-standard security. No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your information, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

9. Age

Between Us is for adults. The Site isn't directed at anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think someone under 18 has sent us information, please contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the community grows. When we do, we'll change the effective date at the top, and if the changes are significant we'll let members know by email.
